"When the pride flag was first created each color possessed a different meaning that represented the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. Orange represented healing and this has been instrumental in the development of my style as an artist. Other defining elements of my style are the use of light, warm colors, and bold but sometimes messy brushstrokes: each element demonstrating the personal experiences that have shaped who I am as a person and as an artist. I began painting in 2018 after my entire life shifted—seemingly for the worst. I lost my job, marriage, and friends. I moved from Alaska to Virginia, and, I came out of the closet. My mental, emotional, and physical health all rapidly declined, and I desperately sought out therapy. After a few sessions, my therapist advised me that if I wanted to heal then I must create, so I started painting. Painting is what has brought the most healing into my life. I use the color orange whenever I can to show that healing..is always a possibility." -Colin Harris
